When you grow a proper strain of marijuana and harvest, dry, and cure it to perfection, it has an unmistakable smell and taste of glorious musk.
Stems are more or less useless and will do very little in aiding your quest to get high. Seeds are even worse because they have a nasty tendency to explode when set on fire!
3) Aroma & Taste
Not only will top-shelf weed provide you with an exceptional high, but it should produce a splendid taste and aroma as well.
Although this is not always the case, high-quality indica buds are usually fat, dense, and tightly-packed, while sativa buds are airier, wispier, and a little leaner. Hybrid strains will contain traits of both indica and sativa plants, so if you get something that’s in-between the above description, it’s likely a hybrid (and by the way, sativa buds should have more pistils – the little red hairs – than their indica counterparts).
Unfortunately, an increasing number of companies are using trimming machines so they can cut the weed at lightning speed, which is why we recommend purchasing hand-trimmed flower.
Dreams do come true, right?
In the introduction, we briefly talked about the first type of weed, bad weed), but now let’s really dive into it, shall we? Leafly has a great complimentary piece on how to identify low-quality weed and stick to the top shelf.
You might smoke it as a last resort, but only as a last resort. Reggie is generally going to be very dry, and full of seeds and stems.
Other top-shelf weed names include: Dank, Kine bud or Kind Bud, Loud, Top-shelf, Primo, Kill, Fire, Flame, Top Colas

If all you want is to get mildly centered as you go about your day, a little bit of Reggie should still do the job nicely.
Besides helping to increase tax revenue and decrease rates of mass incarceration, legal weed is just very convenient and has been long overdue. With a recent flip in some of the administration’s views on state rights, we are taking another stride in the adoption of legal marijuana. Even Congress is working towards making marijuana legal across the board.
For reference, sativa buds are typically covered in more pistils (little orange/red hairs) than indica buds. The pistils should be dispersed throughout the bud, not clustered in some areas and absent from others.
Avoid cannabis with any evidence of mold and pests
Did You Know?
Buds that looked bleached white (not frosty with crystals) are the unfortunate victims of light burn, an unfavorable growing condition in which the plant is subjected to extremely high-intensity light. Avoid these buds, as they won’t give you a quality smoking or vaping experience.
Avoid buds that smell like hay or have no discernible smell at all. If it doesn’t have that characteristic dankness, you probably don’t want it. Pungency is directly linked to potency and terpene content.
Avoid buds that are brown, tan, yellow, red, or white in color. Quality cannabis is primarily green in color, with a wide range of accent colors and undertones.
