In terms of turnover, these seeds are capable of producing reasonably sized yields even with a less intense light source. However, the general rule that the greater the light intensity, the better the results, holds true here too. It should also be remembered that how much these types will give is governed by the final size of the plant – a windowsill crop of virtually dwarf cannabis is never going to produce as much as it would in large pots under high-intensity light. In general, however, the amount of bud eventually gleaned from seeds in this section is favourably comparable with that of regular or feminized seeds from the same variety.
Feminized autoflowering cannabis seeds are easy to cultivate: They flower without the need to change light cycles or remove males. Automatic seeds are ideal for new growers, and for those who want a low-maintenance growing experience. Sensi Seeds’ sativas, indicas and hybrids (high THC or high CBD) are ideal for medicinal and recreational cannabis users alike.
This is the first group of varieties to produce superior bud featuring elevated cannabinoid levels without the need for intense light during set, consistent periods of time. Whether using artificial light or sunlight, care and attention was always required in matters of timing the plants’ exposure to it, and ensuring that the hours of darkness really were dark. Light pollution from even minor sources has been known to confuse their internal ‘clocks’ as to whether they are supposed to be vegetating or blooming.
Ideal for beginners
Grown outside, automatic seeds can produce two or more crops in the course of a normal summer. Under lights, ‘autos’ can go from seedling to fully mature plant in as little as 10 weeks. As an added bonus, most are also very hardy and resistant to fungal infections, mould, pests and even frost, due to their extremely robust, northern Eurasian genetic lineage – the Ruderalis – that evolved the ability to flower at will in order to survive. Seeds that automatically flower can be grown indoors, out of doors or in a greenhouse. In addition, all seeds in this category are feminized and from a wide range of genetics, offering different kinds of flavour, aroma and effect.
Due to their genetic composition, Autoflowering plants are usually smaller than other regular seed cannabis plants. When you compare an Autoflower grow to photoperiod feminised cannabis plants, they’re better at surviving pests and mould.
Autoflowering cannabis seeds are seeds that automatically shift from vegetative growth to flowering stages with age rather than the systematic ratio of light exposure. Most ‘autos’ will be ready to harvest in less than 10 weeks from seed.
An Autoflower does not rely on the same amount of light to reach flowering. This means that you can stagger your outdoor grows to harvest multiple times a year.
Autoflowers are also perfect for beginner growers due to their less demanding harvest cycle. Regular strains need constant monitoring and adjusting of the lighting to ensure the plants get their full 12 hours. If you get this wrong, it can lead a plant going back to a vegetative phase which means a ruined plant. Autoflowers mean no worrying about constant lighting. Plus, they grow faster, for those of us who are impatient!
Autoflower cannabis seeds are a Seedsman speciality. In fact, we were the first seed bank in the world to sell Autoflower cannabis seeds.
Cannabis cultivators recommend growing autoflowering seeds outside to take advantage of the natural sunlight. If, however, this isn’t a possibility in your region, be prepared to pay extra on your electricity bill.
All our Autoflowering seeds are feminized.
Indoors, those conditions must be simulated manually by adjusting the light intake of your plants. That’s why many growers keep their crops in an 18/6 light cycle (18 hours of light followed by 6 hours of darkness) during vegetation. When it is time for flowering, the grower must switch to a 12/12 regime. The plant will sense the change and will begin developing buds. Unless of course, it is an autoflowering strain, in which case it will flower regardless of light intake.
They Are Fast Growers
In addition to being easier to hide, shorter autoflowering plants are fantastic for growers who don’t have a great deal of room to work with. If space is a premium in your growing area, then consider giving autoflowering strains a try.
In case you were wondering, ruderalis plants aren’t usually cultivated on their own because they are so small and produce virtually no cannabinoids. Typically these plants only grow to a max height of about 2.5 feet.
As the name suggests, autoflowering seeds flower automatically (duh). That means these plants go through a rapid vegetative stage before moving into the flowering phase. Besides their speed, many growers are attracted to autoflowering seeds because they don’t require set amounts of light/darkness and they produce short plants that are easy to hide.
Once botanists discovered the ruderalis strain, they immediately began scheming ways to create hybrid weed that would mature quickly and offer a high yield. So, these researchers set out crossbreeding ruderalis plants with the other major cannabis varieties and, voilà, we now have autoflowering seeds.
